INC online business meeting
Join the International Communication Section for a very special online Business Meeting to say farewell to the outgoing leadership team and welcome the incoming team. The meeting will be held on 8 June at 12:00 noon CET.
The antecedents of the International Communication Section go back to 1968 when the IAMCR Executive Committee in its meeting in Ljubljana decided to found a new section named ‘International Understanding’. It was formalised as a Section at the Warsaw conference in 1978. At present it is one the largest Sections of the association.
In the International Communication Section we are proud of our diversity and the truly international character that motivates us. We welcome the participation of colleagues from all over the world who wish to present the results of their research on national, inter-regional and international issues that have to do with all subjects of communication, including journalism, political communication, globalisation and other inter-cultural forms of expression. The comparative analysis of the media is an instrument to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of different countries and geo-political regions. In this sense, we welcome comparative studies of the media’s role in foreign policy-making, the (often complex) relationship between citizens and the media in different continents, media ethics and the relationship of media policies to political and governmental authorities – with a special focus on environmental problems and how they are presented by the media in different parts of the world.
This section also considers the role of the media in constructing a sense of community across borders, including the development of virtual communities and the uses of new media, their implications for citizens and societies and the objectives they pursue in order to achieve a better world. You are welcome to send your abstracts to our section in English, French, and Spanish.
To strengthen all of the above, this section collaborates with the journal “Global Media and China”.Updated, September, 2018

The International Communication Section of the IAMCR invites research proposals on the conference theme -Cities, Creativity, Connectivity- within and/or across national borders. In the heavily networked world of today, terms such as "international" and "global" have acquired renewed and new meanings, practices, status, and power relations in the media and communication arenas. Connections and divisions suggested by the conference theme are both old (as in metropolis-colony) and new (for example, the new global cities and related media connections at every level, institutional and individual).
International Communication Section |
Citizenship is best understood through communication. It is membership, identity, belonging, policy, process, work, and activism. Citizenship addresses the core concepts of the ‘national’, the ‘international’ and the ‘global’. The International Communication Section of the IAMCR invites proposals (individual and panel submissions) on citizenship, media and communication within and/or across national borders. We also invite submissions on the more general areas of interest to the section listed below.
The International Communicationn Section invites proposals for the 2009 IAMCR annual conference, to be held at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico and Centro de Investigaciones Interdisciplinarias en Ciencias y Humanidades in Mexico City, Mexico, July 21st to July 24th.

EXTENDED DEADLINE: 15 FEBRUARY 2008!
The International Communication Section Section invites submissions
related to the theme of the IAMCR 2008 Congress – Media and Global
Divides. The theme is of significance to many areas of interest to the
International Communication Section. As media technologies, economies,
policies, practices, and culture have spread globally, and at
exponential rates in the last twenty years or so, so too have the
creations of differences of many kinds, and in many domains.
