About the event

Publishing is a key milestone—and source of stress—for early career scholars in media and communication. While it is an exciting challenge, it can also be confusing, overwhelming, and potentially risky. The Emerging Scholars Network at IAMCR is pleased to invite you to the latest webinar in our professionalization series. The event includes three speakers speaking on three contemporary issues, and plenty of time for questions and answers. Dr. Francesca Musiani of the French National Centre for Scientific Research will speak about open access. Dr. Sumit Narula from Amity University will speak on predatory and clone journals, and Dr. Lei Guo from Fudan University will speak about artificial intelligence, large language models, and publishing. Speakers

Francesca Musiani is a tenured researcher (eq. associate research professor) at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). She holds a PhD in socio-economics of innovation (MINES ParisTech, 2012) and received her Habilitation to supervise doctoral research in sociology from Sciences Po Paris in 2022. She is Deputy Director of the Center for Internet and Society of CNRS, which she co-founded with Mélanie Dulong de Rosnay in 2019. She is also an associate researcher at the Center for the sociology of innovation (i3/MINES ParisTech) and a Global Fellow at the Internet Governance Lab, American University in Washington, DC.

Lei Guo is a professor at the School of Journalism, Fudan University (Shanghai). Her research focuses mainly on the development of media effects theories, news and information flow, and computational social science methodologies. Her studies have been published in a number of leading peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of CommunicationCommunication ResearchNew Media and Society, and Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly (JMCQ)Her edited book, The Power of Information Network: New Directions for Agenda Setting, introduces a new theoretical perspective to understand media effects in this emerging media landscape.

Sumit Narula is a PhD in Electronic Media and Conflict Resolution from Panjab University, Chandigarh. He is presently working as the Director/Head of the Institution in Amity School of Communication at Amity School of Communication, Amity University Gurgaon. Before that, he was the Deputy Dean of Research (Publications & Citations) at Amity University Madhya Pradesh. He has two master's and two Postgraduate diplomas to his credit. He has published two books in Mass Communication/Journalism and edited seven books. He is the Founding Editor in Chief of the bi-annual SCOPUS indexed Journal named Journal of Content Community and Communication which has a Cite Score of 2.6.
