Statement

(English)

Living the IAMCR experience is a remarkable opportunity to learn, share and contribute to an inclusive, diverse and relevant view of the world. I firmly believe in the principles that inspired IAMCR’s founding, in the aftermath of WWII. The association will face several challenges as the world seems to go on a spiral of polarization, extremism and violence poly-crisis which enhance the urgency for communication and dialogue.

I stand as a candidate to the International Council (where I represent the Participatory Communication Research Head), proposing to promote voices, diversity perspectives towards consensus over an ecological idea of communication as a common good, promoting research, science and conviviality.

What is my contribution? Joy, will and energy, driven by co-creation and teamwork and my associative experience, being an active member for the last 8 years of the PCR Head - first as a vice-chair and currently as co-chair - organizing, promoting and participating in the main conferences and other events, but also at ECREA (OSCS Chair 2010-2016) and SOPCOM (Vice-Chair PUB GT - 2012-2016).

CV: Vice-Dean for Communication of the Social Sciences Institute, professor and researcher, University of Minho (Portugal). Interested in participatory strategic communication applied to health, territories, organizations, non-profit and C4SC, keyword for the future of a sustainable communication and society. In the last years I’ve been editing and publishing on these subjects.

Dorismilda Flores-Márquez, Co-Chair of the Participatory Communication Research Section

I first met Ana Melo several years ago, when she was vice-chair of the Participatory Communication Research Section (2016-2020) and I participated as presenter and reviewer. After that, from 2020 to 2024 we have been co-chairs of the same Section. During this time, I have seen her ability to lead.
She is a Portuguese scholar, with previous experience in advertising and an interesting trajectory as researcher on participation, urban communication and health communication. Her research has had a social impact.
She has been involved in other researcher associations as ECREA. In IAMCR, she knows very well the dynamics of work in the Sections and Working Groups from the inside, which enriches her vision and can contribute to the dialogue in the IC.

I would like to encourage you to vote for Ana Melo for the International Council. I have closely witnessed Ana's hard and competent work in the Participatory Communication Research (PCR) Section. She is very committed to the section, bringing energy and great ideas to all its activities. She is also a supportive colleague and a charismatic scholar, making her an excellent candidate for the IC.

As one of the PCR Section (co-)chairs, Ana is my successor there. She was also one of the section’s vice-chairs, when I was PCR chair. This allowed me to witness how the PCR section, under her (co-)guidance has continued to flourish, demonstrating Ana’s (academic) leadership skills, eagerness to get things done, sense of responsibility, and participatory decision-making skills. She worked well with her team in the PCR Head, knowing when to delegate, but also never stopping with doing the work herself, if need be.

Ana has been an enthusiastic and vigorous supporter of the Association's work for many years. I know her from her service first as Vice Chair, then Chair of the Participatory Communication Research Section. Her tenure in this position moved the Section forward in terms of both research and in collaborations with other groups in the Association. Her continued involvement will be an asset to the Association's work. I support enthusiastically.

I support Ana Duarte Melo's candidacy for the IC. I have known Ana since the IAMCR conference in Braga, during which I noticed her energy. This is the same energy that has nurtured the PCR Section over the past few years. She has done a brilliant job in sustaining and growing the Section, in spite of the challenges brought on by Covid-19. Ana's focus on cultural plurality and attention to detail shone through.

I strongly support Ana Melo's candidacy for the IC. I've known Ana for many years and worked with her for more than two decades, both at our University and in a number of international conferences and seminars, sometimes co-organized by us. Her energy and enthusiasm in fulfilling all the tasks she takes are notorious. Within IAMCR, she has already a long history of participation and leadership. I'm sure whe will bring a most valuable contribution to the IC.

I have been regularly participating in the Participatory Section, and Ana has always been present, contributing academically with her welcoming smile and positive attitude. Participating in an international space is not always easy, but Ana, along with other IAMCR colleagues made it easy for me. I believe that she will excel in the International Council, and I wholeheartedly support her nomination.
