Statement
(English)
Dear friends, I come from the Latin American South, from Chile, where I work as an Associate Professor in the School of Communication at Diego Portales University Universidad Diego Portales. I dedicate my time to studying media and communication around social mobilization, and voice as a tool for social justice.
An essential part of my trajectory is linked to the streets I walked, to the centres where I received a formal education – BA in Journalism, Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, Chile; PhD in Communication, Goldsmiths, University of London – and to the instances in which I became aware of a vast world of communication researchers. I am primarily referring to what happened to me at the first IAMCR I attended - Montreal 2015.
After that, I became familiar with and fascinated by sharing a table discussion on communication, democracy, activism, and regulation with colleagues from India, Sweden, Colombia, and Hong Kong, among other territories. Their hearts and minds connected me with a unique space that, nevertheless, must continue to grow in inclusion and participation so that we can effectively coexist in a world of multiple voices. From the International Council, I want to contribute to that goal with all my strength, kindness, and commitment.

Endorsement Jorge Saavedra
Jorge Saavedra to the IC
My knowledge of Saavedra's work is limited, but he made an impression with his pro-active energy and wit in the several occasions we interacted within the Participatory Communication Research Section. He would be a diverse and relevant voice at the IC.
Endorsement for Jorge Saavedra Utman as IC member of IAMCR
I am very pleased to leave this endorsement for Jorge Saavedra Utman from Chile because I believe that the International Council of IAMCR will benefit significantly from having a more active participation from Latin American colleagues. Besides, I think that it takes courage for an academic to self-proclaim into a competitive election like this one, trying to get a seat in the International Council; therefore, anyone who comes from a wonderful continent which is not enough represented yet at IAMCR, in my opinion deserves a chance.

------
I welcome Jorge's candidacy for the IC of IAMCR. Jorge is a high profile, rigorous and recognised researcher, with high social sensitivity and a contrasted international profile. I am sure that with Jorge on the IC the representation of the countries of the Global South will be greatly strengthened.
Jorge Saavedra Utman is one of the amazing people I met at IAMCR Conference in Madrid in 2019. Since then, I have followed his work on communication, social movements, community media and social change. He is an outstanding young researcher, with an interesting trajectory, as a Latin American researcher, trained in Europe and who has been back in Chile several years ago with a position as associate professor at Universidad Diego Portales, where he is currently leading two research projects.
For several years, he has actively participated in IAMCR, particularly in the Participatory Communication Research Section and the Community Communication and Alternative Media Section. His contributions as presenter, reviewer and session chair in conferences have always been characterized by a collaborative and empathetic attitude.
I support his candidacy because I firmly believe that our generation, our side of the world and our perspective of research deserves to be represented in the IC.
