This webinar centres on the Indian environmentalist Ashish Kothari’s work on radical alternatives to today's unsustainable, inequitable society and economy. Ashish Kothari’s presentation will cover the roots and dimensions of current crises (ecological, economic, social, political), grassroots responses to these crises, and frameworks of transformation emerging from these responses.
Ashish Kothari has written and edited over 30 books and is one of the founders of NGO Kalpavriksh. He has served as a member of the Steering Committees of the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA), the IUCN Commission on Environmental, Economic, and Social Policy, as well as the steering group of the Convention on Biodiversity Alliance, ICCA Consortium and Greenpeace International.
IAMCR’s Environment, Science and Risk Communication WG’s webinar, in partnership with Manipal Institute of Communication, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, India, will provide a space for communication scholars interested in the environment/development/democracy nexus, to reflect upon critical environmental issues, particularly relevant to the Global South.
