The Political Economy Section looks forward to the next IAMCR Conference and invites submissions (both individual and collective panels) for its open sessions at the 2011 conference to be held at the Kadir Has University, Istanbul, 13-17, July.
The general conference theme is ‘Cities, Creativity, Connectivity’ which is highly relevant for a cross-cutting Section such as Political Economy. In one way or the other, the most pressing concerns of present-day political economies link up with the wide-range set of issues for debate put forward in the Conference General Call (e.g. creative and culture industries in a globalized economy; economies of art and creativity; commercializing creativity; production of inequality in a global city; the world of social networks, connectivity and creativity; digital art worlds and virtual connectivity; social responsibility, personhood and global city; membership,
communities and marginalized groups; global economies and politics of gender).
In addition to the topics more closely related to the conference general theme, the Political Economy Section welcomes submissions on:
- Political economy of the Internet and social media
- Moral economies, gift economies and free culture/free economy
- Media capital and financialization of corporate media
- Public interest and public goods
- Political economy of audiences
- Political economy of journalism
- Political economy of personal information
- Power, media policy and regulation
- Media, citizenship and democracy
- Tracking and analyzing processes of de-commodification or de-marketization of cultural and communication policies around the globe
- Cultural and creative work in the context of digitization and global capitalism
Aiming to reflect the state of the art, the Section is particularly open to new theoretical approaches and empirical developments. Joint sessions are being prepared and will be the subject of special calls.
The deadline for submission of abstracts is 8th February, 2011.
