Braga 2010 - Health Communication & Change Working Group Call for Papers

braga_2010IAMCR’s General Assembly accepted in July 20082008 the establishment of a new working group in IAMCR: Health Communication and Change. This working group will meet for the second time during the IAMCR 2010 Conference in Braga, Portugal, 18-22 July 2010. The overall IAMCR-conference theme is 'Communication and Citizenship. Rethinking Crisis and Change'.

It is in this light that we now invite papers for this new working group on health communication and change.

We wish to focus the attention on papers that emphasize the theoretical and conceptual re-thinking of health communication moving it beyond the discipline of behaviour change communication and into a broader multi-disciplinary realm of communication with emphasis on social change. Consequently, we wish to encourage conceptual papers that focus on epistemology, theory and methodology in health communication.

Both individual abstracts and panel proposals are encouraged.

Joint Panel

The Health Communication and Change Working Group is furthermore organizing a joint panel with the Communication and HIV/AIDS Working Group. This panel will be exploring communication and social change in the context of HIV/AIDS as a global health catastrophe. Responses to HIV/AIDS have raised questions about how we understand change within health communication interventions. In particular, questions remain in understanding processes of social and cultural change surrounding the epidemic and the role that communication may play. We invite papers from those engaging in research and practice that critically explore social and cultural change related to health, communication and HIV/AIDS.
