Liangwen Kuo is a Distinguished Professor of the School of Media and Communication at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), China. Dr. Kuo obtained dual PhD degrees, first from the Department of Sociology at The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA, USA) and second from the School of the Arts and Media at the University of New South Wales (UNSW, Australia).
Dr. Kuo’s research interests include media sociology, aboriginal and ethnic media, intangible culture digitisation, participatory communication, cypersociety, and qualitative methodologies. Dr. Kuo participated in many IAMCR conferences. He had been a vice-chair of the Digital Divide Working Group for many years. He also served as the Chief Executive Officer for the 2003 IAMCR Taipei Conference (It was later cancelled due to the breakout of SARS.)
Dr Kuo has teaching experience for more than 30 years across Taiwan, Mainland China and Hong Kong, including National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (Taiwan), Shih Hsin University (Taiwan), Hsuan Chuan University (Taiwan), Shenzhen University (China), and Hong Kong Baptist University (Hong Kong). He is now the editor-in-chief of the scholarly journal entitled “Emerging Media: Technology, Industry and Society,” published by Sage. Dr Kuo has been accepted as IAMCR Ambassador in 2024 and aims to promote IAMCR to the Chinese communication communities.
