Travel grants for 2019
Twenty travel grants of up to US$1,500 each will be made available to early-stage scholars who reside in low and middle income countries. Travel grants are mostly financed with a portion of your IAMCR membership fees and with donations from members. Read more >

IAMCR 2019 awards
In addition to the travel grants, the IAMCR awards in memory of Herbert I. Schiller, UCF/IAMCR Urban Communication Research Grant, and the New Directions for Climate Communication Research Fellowship will also be awarded during the Madrid conference. Video presentations experiment
Five IAMCR sections and working groups have launched an experimental initiative to call for video presentations for the IAMCR 2019 conference. They have pubished a special joint CfP and a technical note for IAMCR video presentations. Read more >

Plenary speakers named
The IAMCR 2019 organisers have confirmed exciting speakers for two of their major plenary sessions. The Spanish philosopher and essayist, Javier Gomá, will deliver the opening speech on July 8 with the short but thought-provoking title, Dignity, a revolutionary principle. Read more >
The next day Cuban blogger, Yoani Sánchez, will talk about how technology has provided her and others Cubans with more freedom. Read more >

Membership renewal in full swing
Our 2019 membership renewal campaign has begun.
Last month Janet Wasko wrote to all individual members and the administrators of institutional memberships inviting them to renew. If you didn’t receive her letter, email us and we’ll resend it.
If you are a representative of an institutional members, you can login to your account and select My membership from the menu to see if your institution's membership has been renewed. While you are logged in, you can also see a list of your institution’s representatives, including the administrator.
Membership fees provide us with the majority of our operating income and your support is vital to the continuing health of the organization. Read more >

IAMCR statements on Venezuela, Hungary and Australia
IAMCR's Clearinghouse on Public Statements has issued statements in solidarity with university professors, students and media professionals in Venezuela, supporting Gender Studies teaching in Hungary, and condemning political interference in research funding in Australia research funding. The Clearinghouse makes public statements on issues and events of relevance to its members and in which IAMCR has specific interest and expertise. Any current member of IAMCR may request the Clearinghouse to consider whether a public statement should be made. Read more >

New Working Group on Rural Communication
Rico Lie and Sarah Cardey, Co-chairs, Rural Communication Working Group
The new IAMCR Working Group on Rural Communication (RUC) was launched at our last IAMCR Conference in Eugene. The working group aims to provide a platform for scholars and professionals working in the field of rural communication. The focus of the working group goes beyond the provision of services in rural areas and adopts a broad understanding of rural communication. Read more >

3 section/working group projects funded
Three projects submitted to the IAMCR Sections and Working Group Fund in the September 2018 round have been accepted for funding. The Audience Section, the Communication Policy & Technology Section and the Participatory Communication Research Section will all receive funding. Read more >

CPT best paper awards
The Communication Policy and Technology Section presented two awards for best papers at IAMCR 2018. The CPT Best Paper Award went to “Airing Imperium: A Historiography of Radio Governance in South Asia”, by Preeti Raghunath, University of Hyderabad, India and the CPT/Internet Policy Review Award went to “Beyond ‘zero sum’: Balancing Network Neutrality and Mobile Broadband Access in the Regulation of Zero Rating”, by Guy T. Public Service Media Policies post conference
The Public Service Media Policies Working Group organised an IAMCR post-conference, “Public Service Media in a Time of Global Reordering: Sustainability, Reinvention and Extension”, at the University of Oregon in Eugene. IAMCR joins global alliance
IAMCR recently became a founding member of the “Global Alliance for Social and Behaviour Change Communication – Building Informed and Engaged Societies”, a new network with a mission to: “Advance the scale, quality, impact, and sustainability of communication for development, media for development, social change, and behavioural change strategies.” Read more >

IAMCR history group formed
The Executive Board recently created a Commission on IAMCR History. Jörg Becker was appointed head of the commission. Kaarle Nordenstreng and Cees Hamelink , authors and editors of many of the texts currently found in the IAMCR history pages on the website, are among the members. Read more >
