The Journalism Research & Education Section invites submissions for its open sessions at the IAMCR Conference (July 21-24 2009) in Mexico City, Mexico, under the general theme of the Conference "Human Rights and Communication."
The Journalism Research & Education Section will invite papers within the general theme to promote conduct and dissemination of research into all facets of journalism and journalism education. This ranges from journalism theories to journalism practice as it shapes and is shaped by emerging technologies, markets, and industries.
The JRE Section endeavors to approach journalism research and education from a global perspective. It seeks to probe paradigms born out of the western dominated discourse which no longer adequately capture the many transitional media systems around the globe. The section strongly encourages collaborative research as a way of bridging these gaps in the research of journalism and journalism education.
The Journalism Research & Education Section launches its new website at the end of November with the aim of creating a more dynamic & interactive website that enables the section members to connect, share information and news. Besides, there will be annual on-line survey after the conference to evaluate the section's performance and keep the progress in the designated direction.
Part of the new restructuring of the JRE Section, the process of selection of the research paper will be through a blind referee process, six section members functioning as a steering committee, who will change by rotation every year to optimize the quality of research in the best objective and professional level.
Abstracts presented to the Journalism Research & Education Section should not exceed 400 words with clear description of your research objectives, methods used and theoretical framework. Each abstract should have a title and a theme-oriented approach. Include in the cover page, your name, title, affiliation and contact information.
This year, the JRE Section will cover five main themes:
- International Collaborative Research in Journalism Research: New Challenges and Emergent Perspectives.
- Innovations in Journalism.
- The Profession of Journalism.
- Methods for Quantifying Professional Journalism.
- Generic Studies of Journalism.
Paper abstracts have to be submitted before February 16, 2009. Evaluation results will be announced by March 29, 2009. Authors with accepted abstracts MUST send their full papers before July 1, 2009, to include the authors' names and papers' titles in the final conference program.
Conference papers will only be accessible to IAMCR members in a private domain, without quoting or using them for other research, which will also give the session's chairs and discussants more papers before hand to maximize the productivity of the JRE sessions.
For any communication with the JRE Section, a new email is available: jre09is[AT]gmail.com.
