Description
This pre-conference aims to discuss the emergence of public health issues both as sudden crises and slow disasters. The event focuses on the interdependencies between various categories of actors (activist communities, NGO, scholars, public institutions, industrial and commercial players), who can contribute to identify, communicate and document the health issues, and media which play a fundamental role in the publicization of the crises.
This process appears to be particularly complex when crises are framed at a territorial level which mixes various action scales and temporalities. If health crises produce local territorial outcomes involving contextual logic and action, these issues are also integrated into national frameworks and international guidelines and regulations (WHO, EU, etc.).
How do health crises emerge locally? How do national or international pandemics impact territories? How do various categories of actors differently empowered, eventually with different objectives and having diverse knowledge collaborate, negotiate, manage and communicate about crises? How are crises perceived from a territorial standpoint and what particular role do media play in this process?
In order to tackle the ”territorial factory of the health crises”, the pre-conference crosses multidisciplinary contributions based on empirical research in information and communication and in political sciences with action on the ground insights of invited experts.
