The Visual Culture Working Group - Call for Proposals

The Visual Culture Working Group invites submissions for sessions at IAMCR 2014 Conference in Hyderabad from 15th to 19th July 2014. The theme of the conference is “Region as Frame: Politics, Presence, Practice” Visual Culture Working group has been contributing to soliciting new ideas and creative views to examine problems with the world communication system particularly from the perspective of non-Western alternatives.

This group consists of strong regional experts in media. We have been involved in creating arguments on dynamic changes in visual art, cinema, visual media and new technology in Asia, South America and Africa in addition to changes in European and North American visual media. We welcome theoretical and practical research agenda related to visual culture. We would like to encourage panel proposals in relation to the main theme of this year’s conference as well.

This year we would like to organize special sessions for local media in cooperation with visual artists and film makers in India. We encourage local scholars who are interested in visual art in India including art films, photography and video art to participate in the events.

Also, we will organize special sessions for graduate students. We would like to encourage graduate students to apply for special sessions to have a good review and special care for students,

The prospective themes of Visual Culture Working Group sessions would be as follows though we would not exclude any other themes related to visual cultures.

• cultural studies of visual media,

• history of visual culture,

• new technology and visual media,

• visual art and aesthetics

• sociological and anthropological research on visual communication,

• cinema studies,

• methodological issues in visual communication.

Guidance of abstract submission

• Abstracts should be between 300-500 words.

• Names of the authors, professional titles, institutional affiliations, email address should be included.

• The title should be clearly marked

• Abstracts (and full papers) should be submitted by OCS system on the IAMCR website (http://iamcr-ocs.org), not to the Section chair.

Deadlines

• Submission of abstracts Feb 10, 2013.
• Decisions on acceptance of abstracts: March 24, 2014.

The OCS system at http://www.iamcr-ocs.org will open on December 1, 2013, and will close on February 10, 2014. Early submission is strongly encouraged.
