Call for papers for the 2014 IAMCR Conference, Hyderabad, India, July 15-19 2014
The IAMCR 2014 conference will be held in Hyderabad, India, July 15-19, 2014. The Media Education Research Section invites submissions of individual research papers and complete panels proposals.
The section is interested in papers bearing on all the dimensions of media education research:

Epistemology and theory in media education research
-
Place of media education within information and communication sciences
-
Research methodologies in media education
-
Pedagogy/pedagogies, curricula and teaching practices
-
Media education policies at local, national and international level (indicators, benchmarking,…)
-
The frontiers of media education with information literacy, digital literacy, computer literacy, etc.
-
The new frontiers of transliteracies
-
The tensions with e-learning development at university and in secondary education
-
New learning research processes and their impact on media education
-
Literacy studies as social practices
-
Play, simulation and other participatory techniques for media education
-
The contribution of media education to citizenship, ethics, peace and participation
-
Resistance to and criticism of media education
In relation to this year’s theme, “Region as Frame: Politics, Presence, Practice,” participants might want to consider the contribution of media education to:

Citizenship as an ideal and practice

Creativity and the creation of online and offline presence
-
Critical thinking, regional politics and freedom of expression
-
21st century skills and regional concerns in a globalized knowledge sphere
-
Identity construction in regions and in transborder situations
-
Communication inequality: rural and urban trends
-
Social networks, connectivity and virtual regions and spaces

Communities, connectivity and marginalized groups

Paper proposals should be one page long, and should list the author's name, address, university affiliations, telephone, fax, and e-mail, followed by the paper's title and an abstract of 500 words/1500 signs. The abstract should specify the subject, research questions asked, methodology and indicate some of the findings if possible.
Panel proposals should include a title, description of the central theme and subthemes, number of panellists (max 5), and the name and e-mail address of the person responsible for the panel.
MER accepts presentations in English, French and Spanish. However, it is requested that abstracts, when possible, be submitted in English. The deadline for submission is February 10, 2014 (OCS closed).
Proposals will be peer reviewed and supervised by the scientific board of the Media Education Research section.
Submission of abstracts is to be done online through the IAMCR's Open Conference System (OCS) at http://iamcr-ocs.org. The OCS system will be available to receive abstract submissions from Wednesday December 1, 2014.
The results of peer reviews of submitted abstracts will be announced by the section heads by March 24, 2014. Full papers must be submitted online via the IAMCR-OCS by June 20, 2014. Nota Bene: According to IAMCR rules, it is expected that only one abstract per person will be submitted for consideration by the Conference. Under no circumstances should there be more than two abstracts bearing the name of the same applicant either individually or as part of any group of authors.
