IAMCR offers an open, inclusive, and safe scholarly environment for members from all backgrounds and locations, one that recognizes and is sensitive to issues of marginalization and vulnerabilities, including those arising from particular identity positions. As such, the Association is committed to creating a collegial, welcoming space for all, one that encourages discussion and resolution of any negative experiences that may arise for individual members during the course of interactions and events conducted by or under the aegis of IAMCR.
To this end, IAMCR has designated a set of confidential contact persons (CCP) to ensure compliance with IAMCR’s code of conduct.
The CCPs will work as needed with the IAMCR Executive Board (EB), the International Council (IC), and the Association’s Committees and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to ensure that IAMCR’s principles of openness, safety and well-being, as outlined in the code of conduct, are upheld at all times of member engagement.
The designated CCPs will:
- serve as a first point of contact for anyone wishing to talk about an undesirable, upsetting, unsafe or potentially unsafe experience occurring within the IAMCR network or during an event, either online or offline. This may be done either by contacting one of the three CCPs via email or if preferred through an anonymous form that does not require revealing identity.
- offer an empathetic, non-judgmental hearing to the affected individual
- discuss with the individual the possibility and nature of redressal sought (referral for psychological or emotional counseling, setting up a dialogue with the alleged perpetrator (if so desired by the complainant), formal or legal recourse, etc.)
- in case of actions occurring during the conference, the CCP may: (1) handle the matter internally, with possible repercussions for membership status (2) consult with the LOC on any further course of action, or (3) escalate the matter to local law enforcement authorities if needed.
- depending on the seriousness of the issue and on the outcomes (if relevant) of the processes described above, with the consent of the individual, refer to the IC-appointed Ethics Task Force for further course of action, including legal action. This will be based on a process set out in consultation with the Ethics Task Force, which will be decided in accordance with the statutes.
As a matter of record, the CCP will also report to the EB, maintaining confidentiality where requested and wherever possible (depending on the nature and seriousness of the complaint/s), in order to discuss the implications of reported incidents for the Association. An anonymized report will also be created periodically for presentation to the IC, while ensuring complainant anonymity.
